Simplifying Fractions Worksheets
Simplifying is where fraction work gets marked wrong even when the arithmetic was right, because the answer was left as 6/8. The skill underneath is finding the greatest common factor, and children who only ever halve will stall on fractions like 9/12.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Halving repeatedly and stopping early on an odd numerator.
- Dividing the numerator and denominator by different numbers.
- Not recognizing when a fraction is already in lowest terms.
One thing that helps
If a child always divides by 2, give them thirds and fifths deliberately. 9/12 and 10/25 expose the gap that even-numbered fractions hide.
