Opinion Writing

In opinion writing, children state what they think and support it with reasons. A simple structure is OREO: Opinion, Reasons, Examples, Opinion restated. Sentence starters such as 'I think… because…' help beginners.

Writing checklist

• Does my writing have a clear beginning, middle and end?
• Did I begin every sentence with a capital letter and end it with the right punctuation?
• Did I use interesting, specific words?
• Did I read it aloud and fix anything that sounded wrong?
