What children learn in vocabulary in Grade 2
In Grade 2 (typically ages 7–8; equivalent to Year 2 (Australia), Year 3 (England), Class 2), vocabulary work usually focuses on more sight words, prefixes and suffixes, homophones and words with more than one meaning. The exact order differs from school to school and country to country, so treat this as a guide rather than a checklist.
Below you will find every Grade 2 vocabulary worksheet on the site, grouped by topic. Each has three printable sheets and a full answer key. For a quick review pick a topic your child already knows; for new learning, start with the first sheet in a topic and move on once the answers come easily.
Questions parents ask
What should a child learn in Vocabulary Grade 2?
Curricula differ by country, but the topics listed above are typical. Use them as a guide and move up or down as your child needs.
How often should we practise?
Short, regular practice — ten to twenty minutes, three or four times a week — works better than long occasional sessions.
Are answer keys included?
Yes. Every worksheet has an answer key under the sheet; there are three different sheets per topic so you can practise again without repeats.
