Worksheets

Percent means per hundred

Per cent literally means 'out of 100'. 25% is 25 out of 100, which is the fraction 1/4 and the decimal 0.25. Moving fluently between these three forms is one of the most useful number skills for daily life: sales, tips, test scores, interest rates and statistics.

Mental shortcuts help: 10% is one tenth, 50% is half, 25% is a quarter. To find 15% of a number, find 10% and add half of that. The sheets begin with hundred grids and move through percent of a number to discount word problems.

Questions parents ask

How do I find 10% of a number quickly?

Divide by 10. For 20%, double that; for 5%, halve it.

Is a percent always less than 100?

No. 150% means one and a half times the original amount.
