What children learn in reading in Grade 5
In Grade 5 (typically ages 10–11; equivalent to Year 5 (Australia), Year 6 (England), Class 5), reading work usually focuses on analysing characters and arguments, comparing texts, figurative language and citing evidence in longer passages. The exact order differs from school to school and country to country, so treat this as a guide rather than a checklist.
Below you will find every Grade 5 reading worksheet on the site, grouped by topic. Each has three printable sheets and a full answer key. For a quick review pick a topic your child already knows; for new learning, start with the first sheet in a topic and move on once the answers come easily.
Questions parents ask
What should a child learn in Reading Grade 5?
Curricula differ by country, but the topics listed above are typical. Use them as a guide and move up or down as your child needs.
How often should we practise?
Short, regular practice — ten to twenty minutes, three or four times a week — works better than long occasional sessions.
Are answer keys included?
Yes. Every worksheet has an answer key under the sheet; there are three different sheets per topic so you can practise again without repeats.
