Maths with pictures first
Kindergarten addition and subtraction should be concrete. Children join groups of objects, count them all and tell the story: 'three birds and two more birds make five birds.' Only later do symbols (+, −, =) take over. Number bonds to 5 and 10 are the most useful early facts.
