2-Digit Subtraction With Borrowing Worksheets
Borrowing is the single most common place for arithmetic to go wrong, and the reason is that it asks a child to change the problem before solving it. Every problem on this sheet requires it, so there is nowhere to hide.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Crossing out the tens digit but forgetting to reduce it by one.
- Borrowing when it was not needed, then subtracting correctly and still getting ten too few.
- Flipping the column to avoid borrowing — doing 3 − 7 as 7 − 3.
One thing that helps
An answer exactly ten too large is the fingerprint of a borrow that was taken but never paid for. Look for the uncrossed tens digit.
