3-Digit Subtraction Worksheets
At three digits a borrow can cascade: taking from the tens may require the tens to borrow from the hundreds first. This is the step where children who learned borrowing as a one-off trick get stuck, and it shows up as answers that are off by exactly one hundred.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Handling a single borrow but not a chained one.
- Borrowing from the hundreds directly into the ones, skipping the tens.
- Losing the thread on which digits have already been adjusted.
One thing that helps
Make the child rewrite the top number with its crossings-out before subtracting anything. Separating the regrouping from the subtracting cuts the error rate sharply.
