2-Digit by 2-Digit Multiplication Worksheets
Two by two is where the placeholder zero appears, and it is responsible for more wrong answers than any times table. The second partial product is ten times larger than it looks, and a child who forgets that lands within a plausible distance of the right answer — which makes the error easy to miss.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Omitting the zero (or the shift) on the second partial product.
- Adding the two partial products misaligned.
- Carrying from the first partial product into the second.
One thing that helps
Estimate first. 47 × 32 is roughly 50 × 30 = 1,500, so an answer near 300 or near 15,000 is wrong before it is even checked. Estimation catches the missing zero instantly.
