What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Adding the denominators as well as the numerators.
- Leaving an improper fraction when a mixed number was asked for.
- Forgetting to simplify the result.
One thing that helps
Have the child read the problem as 'three eighths plus two eighths'. Said aloud, adding the eighths together sounds as wrong as it is.
