About this skill
Small letters sit on the line. Watch for round letters (a, c, d, g, o) that start at the top and go anticlockwise.
How to teach it
- Keep each session to ten minutes.
- Say the letter or word aloud as the child writes.
- Praise effort and let them colour the page afterwards.
Mistakes to watch for
- Pressing too hard or gripping the pencil in a fist — practise with chunky crayons first.
- Starting letters from the bottom instead of the top.
