About this skill
Some pairs look alike (Cc, Oo, Ss, Vv, Ww, Zz) while others look very different (Aa, Gg, Qq). Start with the similar ones.
How to teach it
- Keep each session to ten minutes.
- Say the letter or word aloud as the child writes.
- Praise effort and let them colour the page afterwards.
Mistakes to watch for
- Pressing too hard or gripping the pencil in a fist — practise with chunky crayons first.
- Starting letters from the bottom instead of the top.
