Grade 3 Alphabetical Order Worksheets
Alphabetical order looks like a filing skill and is really a letter-by-letter comparison skill. The groups here are chosen so that several words share a first letter, which forces the child past the first letter and into the second and third.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Sorting by first letter only and leaving words that share one in any order.
- Losing the thread partway through a group of five.
- Treating a longer word as later in the alphabet because it is longer.
One thing that helps
When two words share a first letter, cover that letter with a finger and compare what is left. It makes the comparison concrete instead of abstract.
