About this skill
To work out 360 ÷ 60, remove one zero from each and do 36 ÷ 6. A strong grasp of facts makes this almost mental.
How to teach it
- Link every division fact to its multiplication fact family.
- Use counters to share objects equally before using symbols.
- Check by multiplying the answer by the divisor.
Mistakes to watch for
- Mixing up the dividend and divisor (6 ÷ 12 instead of 12 ÷ 6).
- Forgetting the remainder or writing it larger than the divisor.
