What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Filling a vowel where a consonant belongs, or the reverse.
- Using a hint letter twice and leaving another unused.
- Producing a real word that is not the target word, which the hint letters will usually rule out if the child checks.
One thing that helps
Have the child read the word aloud with the gaps as pauses. Hearing where the sound is missing is far more reliable than looking for it.
