Multiplication Word Problems Worksheets
The arithmetic in a multiplication word problem is usually the easy part. What children struggle with is deciding that it is a multiplication problem at all, which is why generating new problems matters more here than anywhere else on the site — a memorized answer teaches nothing.

What to watch for when you grade this sheet
- Picking the operation from a keyword rather than the situation.
- Using every number given, including ones that are not needed.
- Getting the arithmetic right and answering a different question than the one asked.
One thing that helps
Ask the child to say what the answer will be a quantity of — cookies, dollars, minutes — before calculating. Naming the unit first prevents most wrong-operation errors.
