How to read the chart
Find the first number in the left-hand column and the second along the top; the answer sits where the row and column meet. Because multiplication is commutative, the chart is a mirror image across the diagonal: 4 × 7 and 7 × 4 give the same answer, which cuts the number of facts to learn almost in half.
Patterns to look for
- The diagonal holds the square numbers (1, 4, 9, 16, 25…).
- Every answer in the 5 column ends in 0 or 5; every answer in the 10 column ends in 0.
- In the 9 column, the digits of each answer add up to 9 (18 → 1 + 8, 27 → 2 + 7).
- Even × anything is even.
Use it as a reference while learning, then cover it up and try the multiplication worksheets or flashcards from memory.
